Repair finish on alum. Trim

Postby coyote » Sat Feb 15, 2014 10:26 am

I've got the t-molding shaped for door. During process of heating and "massaging" it I of course wrinkled and discolored it a bit. It will work fine, but I'd like it to be all one shade. Not necessarily the same it came new and I'm not worried at all about the small wrinkles. Buffing is not going to work (I don't want it like a mirror) I thought about turning the air down on the sandblaster and lightly blasting it. I have read a lot and can't find an answer. Any suggestions or directions? Dave

Get a 3M Scotch Brite pad and try it on a piece of scrap to see if you like it. A power tool might take it down to quick.
I fear the day that technology will surpass our human interaction, the world will have a generation of idiot's.

+1 on the Scotch Brite pads. Not the green ones that you use in the kitchen. They make a gray ultra fine pad that you can find on ebay. I use them for polishing my stainless guns. They leave a matte stainless look; not real shiny.

Any automotive paint store will have Scotch brite pads in various grits.

Cheers,
