Hello all. I am planning on using the insert type roof edge trim and offset T-molding method of sealing a galley that Vintage Technologies uses. Has anyone else used this method. My question is how much do I need to notch my galley side wall to account for the space of the roof edge trim and the seal.

Why not just go to the source and call "Frank" ... I'm sure he'd be happy to tell you ... it's his method, after all ... ...!

I repaired my old Hunter teardrop before I sold it using the extra wide offset T-molding I purchased through So-Cal Teardrops. The original T-molding just wasn't wide enough to do the job. Since I was replacing the thinner T-molding, the hatch had plenty of space. You might take a look at their website:
https://www.socalteardrops.com/parts.php?cid=2&pid=23 -it gives the dimensions on their extra-wide T-molding. I bought the replacement hatch seal that's shaped more-or-less like a P to replace the old stuff. Worked well. They're shipping was fast by the way.

I'm kinda surprised that the vinyl trim edge is used as a seal, but I guess it works. It just doesn't seem to me to have the oooomph that good old spungy rubber has.

I used the same insert and T moldings from Vintage Technologies on mine. You do not have to notch the side wall at all. That's the advantage of that molding. If you look at the picture you posted, you can tell the side wall isn't notched.

The vinyl insert isn't used as a seal. They have a neoprene insert for the trim that's used to seal the hatch.

What we do for our galley hatch overhang (if I'm understandinging you correctly) is go about it almost the same way you are thinking.. All for we cut our hatch aluminum skin to custom fit the max width of the walls in the galley area instead of trim and we put our vinyl weather striping on that overhang to match perfectly with the galley wall edge. We find it's a lot more sturdy and easier to work with it this way! We let the aluminum overhang about 2 inches or so on the bottom, and depending on how thick your sides are with trim, the overhang would match that on each of them.

I wasn't 100% sure if the galley wall was notched just looking at the pictures. Are you happy with this method of sealing the galley? Were there any problems you had?

Be careful which Galley Lid Hinge you order for this application, as you may end up needing the offset one ... ... like I said, you should check with Frank, if for nothing else than to make sure you are getting all the correct pieces, dimensions, etc. ...

It has sealed up my hatch really well. Only problem I've had was a small gap towards the bottom of my hatch. I don't know if it was spring back or if I didn't cut the ribs correctly, probably the later. I just added some thick weather stripping to the T molding, and it's worked great. The hinge is important as well. I have the NON offset hurricane hinge.

This post is excellently timed. I will soon be cutting my profiles for the walls. Okay let me see if I get this straight: I can use the t-molding on the lid to over lap the edge of the radius for the galley, and I don't need the offset notch, BUT to do this I need to make sure I get the correct Hurricane Hinge, and I can use a foam insert in the regular edge molding on the radius. Is that right?

If so, which hurricane hinge do I need, which edge modling, which T-molding, and which inserts do I need? Please include the source and part numbers if you can, this will really help me a lot! Thanks so much for this info.

I also used a flat piece of insert trim across the bottom of the galley. I didn't need it to hang over any edge like the sides.

Did you experience any springback on your hatch? Also can you show how your secure the hatch? I'm curious to see if I can use the compression latches on this type of hatch seal.

I did have a little gap on the bottom and the bottom of the sides of my hatch. I don't know if it was spring back or just poor construction on my part. I'm guessing it was the latter. I put some weather stripping on the T-molding to fill the gap and it's worked great. Through pouring rain and powder dust, it's kept a good seal. I don't know if a compression latch would work or not. I don't know if if would mess up the T-molding.
I use two T handle slam latches. They lock and hold the hatch shut tight. I press on the bottom of the hatch and hear two clicks and know it's closed tight. This is the latches:
