Door construction

Finished building my doors yesterday. Started out thinking I would do the somewhat standard 1 by lumber frame with insulation sandwiched between 1/4" plywood skins. But as I was building the frame out of oak, it came to me to put the frame on the exterior since I'm building a woody. There are 2 layers of 1/4" oak plywood behind the frame, one facing out and the other facing inward. No insulation in the door, but I like the look. Doors are about 1 1/4" thick. Windows from Grant. Latch and deadbolt from Lowe's.

Nice trim job, I hope that my avatar didn't scare your cat. As you can see it is only a test.

Haven't seen him since he saw Chris' picture... however for a Video Engineer your avatar seems quite appropriate. BTW DHAZARD welcome to the forum, I see you've been lurking for a few days anyway, so you know by now that most of these guys are a little wacko...

Steve,

That woodwork is looking awesome! If I didn't know better, I'd think it was on a $100K yacht. Now, why would that be?

I dunno Steve, I hate boats.... Rescued a Lady Captain yesterday. Her steering failed and I had to steer the boat from the quadrant on the rudder wich was under the bed in the aft stateroom, she didn't have an emergency tiller. We got the boat back to the mooring, lots of traffic, and of course, no beer on board.
