I went with 2 Stainless latches very secure and flush mounted. I believe they were $28.95 ea. at trailer.com.

I will be using two Southco locking draw latches. Part #v7-20-111-20. I just bought them from All-West in Seattle, WA for $31 each. Phone 1-800-676-1875. www.southco.com/V7-Over-Center-Series-Latches I may have paid too much.

I'm planning on a handle, and 2 draw latches that can be locked. However, like someone else said somewhere. I will probably leave it unlocked most of the time. The amount of damage someone could do by breaking into it is far worse than anything that I might have of value that they could steal.

The tear came with an RV baggage door lock, there was how ever a MAJOR problem. Bouncing down the road the latch would work its way open (even when locked) and the galley hatch would open. After an exhaustive search trying to find what would fit and work with the door I found a pair of Perko marine latches which work well and help keep the door seals engaged.

I used these from http://www.mcmaster.com/. They are adjustable so you can compensate for any non perfect fits to compress the gasket as much as you need (P/N 1807A62)
They are also lockable with a padlock

Same thing for the tongue box

Worked easy for me. I borrowed the idea from other builds on the forum. I started to look at the T handle but decided to much effort and not as secure or adjustable.

I then used a small boat stainless hand rail for more durable handle to lift the hatch

Good Luck

I used the basic latch system from Grant at http://www.lilbear.teardrops.net/ I can use one key for the doors and hatch, and it works just fine.

I used the draw latches that Steve mentioned. Southco V7 over center draw latches. They're pricey, but they're worth it. Stylish and lockable.

I have 4 extra (just like above but in satin chrome) if anybody is interested.

At the campsite, we keep valuables in the truck. I don't lock my hatch or my teardrop doors at the campsite. (The hatch stays open during the day but is closed at night.)
