Hi folks
I posted this in the general thread, but it went a bit off topic....

Just wanted to show a pic of a galley seal on a professionally built trailer (on behalf on MINI).

Love how the outer edge seal is one uninterrupted length, and the galley seal is inset.

Avoids notching out the side.

anyone here do anything like this themselves?

I can't speak to how many homecrafters are building like that, MM, but several commercial mfgs. over here are using similar methods to build & seal their galley lids ... like Camp-Inn and Oregon Trail'R, and a couple of others that don't pop right into my mind.

CHEERS!

I build mine somewhat similar. I like to have the sides be continuous and uninterrupted as you described.

On my latest build (still in the building phase), you can see the far side galley inner lip where the weatherstrip will be. The hatch will close down on this weatherstrip and rest between the outer skins.

That "notched" area is 7/16" back from the edge of the profile (3/16" hatch skin + 1/4" for the weatherstrip). From the back, you will see 1/8" gaps on each side of the hatch skin. The weatherstrip forms a channel that the water will run down and out instead of coming in.

This is design is very similar to the method that Len uses to construct his hatch and seals:
