Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

I stumbled across this on the instructables site....

I know it's not a tear, but it just shows a clever manipulation of materials that could maybe be incorporated into a tear... Rear light housing? Fenders? Who knows.

Probably most relevant to you foamaholics, but thought I'd post it here!

Thanks a million for sharing your "stumbling" results, Mallymal. I have been racking the grey cells for months, and researching the web for ideas to neatly finish a project I started oh! Too many months ago. This looks like the perfect solution. Would never had thought of using fleece as a medium with fibreglass. Looks like I can meet my self-imposed deadline of August to get the thing completed & out of the garage. Pictures will be posted after the thing is completed

All I would say is that in the vid, it looks like the guy used what we call MDF in the uk (a kind of man made fibreboard). Fine for interior work, like speaker pods, but a no no for outside...

Fully agree on the comments re: MDF. as a chippie, I know all about the weaknesses of the product and quite frankly, I thinks it's strengths such as they are, is over-rated. Personally I love real wood, and consider MDF as a temporary solution to the real thing. I've done too much insurance repair work in homes where mdf has failed due to moisture ingress. MDF has it's uses but I prefer not to use it in a home anymore. There's not even a hint of it in my teardrop either.
Anyway, what were you looking for to do when you stumbled upon this?

Oh just obsessing with finishing details before I've even got my basic design agreed!

I was wondering if I could make some kinda lightweight moulding to run right across the back of my tear , featuring a recess for the licence plate, and recesses for round tail lights.

I'd seen a tv program about a guy modding a hot rod, and sinking rear lights into wings after doing some fibreglass fabrication.

It may or may not happen, but it's fun dreaming....

I built this Flintstone-ish ticket office using the same methods..



except my fibreglass went on the out side over the fleece for a rougher stone look finish

If using foam as a core mold, epoxy resin will work....For years now ,I have a HUGE roll of fiberglass matt just sitting around here if anyone wants some......
