How many doors?

I see many of you have 2 doors..
(im guessing it is for 2 adults sleeping in it)

I will be having myself and my son in it (he is 4)
So Im wondering will one door be enough? My boots will be outside the door I came in, so stepping out the other door will be pointless.

Please explain the number of doors you have and why?

(also I will be making my own doors due to budget so building one will be hard enough)

2 because I don't want to have to crawl over someone to get in or out ex specially in the middle of the night when nature calls and visa versa plus your son will grow up faster than u think

I used one on my first teardrop.

Didn't feel a need for two. It worked out okay, there may have been a few times my son needed to go over top of me to get out, but a few times over several years wasn't a big deal.
I knew how, and wasn't concerned with "another" potential leak area, the big reason was budget, we were trying to build with little money.

As always, everyones opinion, and needs are different.
Building a cardboard mockup is a really good idea, and will help solve concerns like this before you commit.

As already mentioned two door is good so each has a exit and no crawling over the other person... AND if the bear is coming in only door, how do you get out....

I built mine with only one door as it was just for me to sleep in, however I built the door frame into both walls, when I remade the tear from a sleeper only into a camper, it was easy to cut the second door out.

Your'e going to blink, and that four year old is going to be a teenager.

Getting in and out of a teardrop is nothing like a 17' Jayco. It'll be just fine right now with one door, but down the road, you'll wish you had two.

I assume some people feel a bit cramped or claustrophobic in a teardrop. One door is going to exasperate it. Also, if you ever decide to sell it, it'll move faster if it has two doors.

But build your teardrop!

There was a poll in the forum a while back that asked what would you change about your teardrop. I think 2 doors ranked second the a wider cabin.

Two door makes it a lot easier to make the bed if you use fitted sheets etc. two doors makes it easier to get something from inside the cabin, no need to walk around to the other side, two doors will make it more desirable if you decide to sell it, two door makes it easier for two people, no crawling in, just sit down and lay down. My experience with younger kids (10-12 year old) is they will get in and out more times than you think and you will be glad you have the second door.

Always plan for two doors, even if at first you only have one.
That could be as simple as marking off the area for an RV door on the driver's wall and not putting anything within an inch of that area, so later you could cut it out and mount a door.

However I shall build 2 doors. Im guessing the first will hard, the second will be easy

Originally wanting just one, I was talked into two doors, by the wife (who has never camped in it), and though I've been camping alone, I'm glad that it has two. Two doors facilitates access from either side, for easier packing, or for variable set-ups when camping (I've used either side as my "front door/porch", depending on the view), and it allows me to use the other door as my dedicated side-tent entry (I can seal my larger tent to the secondary door, enabling me to step out directly into the floored tent, unseen by neighboring campers).
