Good day all,
Just a quick question for the Pro's...
Per my sketch, is a 5'' overhang potentially a problem with TD strength?
Thanks,
George

I am by no means a pro and am in fact a rookie in TD building. However, I've built a lot of other stuff over the many years. With mine my floor overhangs the trailer frame 7" on each side and 12" on the back. I way, way overbuilt my floor doing 1/2 ply then a 1" framing filled with foamboard and another 1/2 ply. I weight 220 and can stand and bounce on the far, unsupported corner without any noticeable spring or movement. I flipped it over twice today while doing my waterproofing and it is like flipping a sheet of granite, no bend at all. I calculate it weighs about 170lbs.
Strength in a cantilever comes from the material composition and overhang vs supported length. Not sure what your floor composition is, but guessing it is 3/4" multilayer plywood. Just saying with my laminated system it could probably withstand a 24 inch overhang.

Thanks Dave,
I was planning to use a composit floor of 1/4" Ply, 3/4'' frame with foam insulation and a final 1/2" floor board. Probably similar to your only with the 1/4'' on the bottom.

Thanks Harvey,
That's about what I'm designing right now. I plan to use the frame from a rather tired Palamino Colt popup. Actually all that's left is the frame.

Hi George,
Yours will be fine. If I build another, I will definitely lighten the floor build. However, having a really strong foundation (even if overbuilt) doesn't hurt too much. After seeing how mine came out, I'd have no qualms dropping to your sizes at all.
Harvey, that is a NICE build! Very similar in shape to what I'm doing.
