Where's My Struts?? Don't Ask Or It Will Cost $$$

Just a heads up that when ordering from a hardware company that goes by the name of the Texas state capital, be careful or it will cost you extra.
I ordered 2 gas struts and the associated brackets in January and I was charged $14.07 for shipping.
I received my order promptly from the Mira Loma, CA facility in a few days but was it missing one of the struts.
The salesperson never mentioned they did not have 2 in stock or that it was back ordered.
I patiently waited two weeks and then called to inquire about the missing strut.
That salesperson said that another of their facilities had it in stock and it shipped that day.
My second invoice has a shipping charge of $19.29 for that shipment that completed my original order I placed in January.

I talked to the original salesperson whom I placed my order with and it seems I was suppose to wait for them to ship out the missing strut even though there is no indication on my invoice that it would be shipped at a later date.
Since I inquired about the missing part I was dinged for the extra shipping for that item.
I will not be reimbursed for the extra shipping. :x
I've ordered from them several times in the past and ignored the extra shipping charges until now.
They have great gas struts/springs but I will not order from them again.

I found comparable gas struts here and they will get my business next time I need gas struts.
If you order from ebay or Amazon they have to have whatever they are selling in stock so it's a safer way to make purchases.
Besides the shipping on ebay for those 2 struts is under $10 not $14.07 + $19.29.

I don't have any idea how much poundage you'll need but it has to exceed the weight of the lid with the forces involved.
I can lift my lid by myself and it must somewhere around 40 pounds +/-.
It's 60" wide and 48" long. My struts are in the 17" range when fully open.
I use to use 120# struts and would leave the galley lid open all the time while it was stored in the garage.
Once or twice the lid did shut by itself (cold weather) so I went to the 153# struts that the afore mentioned company sells.
I also noticed R&P Carriages sells them.
They are a very nice family run business that I've done business with before.
You might do a search here on what poundage you might need or someone might chime in.
Good luck, :D Danny

Here's another place to get gas springs (struts) and actually any kind of hardware, seal, material, etc. for that matter:

http://www.mcmaster.com

Their prices sometimes aren't the best, but you can't beat their service. Shipping/delivery is fast. Danny - I believe they are in Washington state.

Thanks Tom, I have been aware of this company for some time and just recently I made a flawless order with them.
With the other company their website is always under construction (several years now) so you have to call them.
I would rather order on the internet than deal with the associated problems I recently had.

When I make an order that involves multiple parts I request that it held for shipment until the order is complete, unless I'm in dire need for a particular part . Not all suppliers will honor the the request ( most do ) but they will have to answer you one way or the other ................
