Since the last post I made about Bedding went South and to 3 pages in a short time, I thought I would continue this discussion in another post.

From what I understand, the Knox Foam (Grade a Medium) would be the best for sleeping/dinette use.

What I was wondering is do you have the pad cut into 3 or 4 pieces and can they make a split chambered cover so that you can fold it into seating cushions?

I used Knox's Grade A firm for the seats/mattress, in 3" thickness, for our Lil'Diner. I had it made in four sections and bought their covers too. The cushion is nice for seating and as a mattress, very comfy! We sleep on a memory fom mattress at home, thie camper mattress is very similar.

I did the same kind of thing: I cut the mattress into four sections. Two are the seat, one is the back and the last one stays at the bulkhead wall.



The cushion covers were sewn by my wife. I'm still hearing about how picky I was about how they fit.

Oh yeah, I used a 3" foam mattress from The Foam Source in Boulder. I upgraded one level from their bottom of the line and wished I hadn't. Its a little firmer than I'd like. I guess we'll just need to break it in by using it more.

Bandit....sorry I was part of the thread hijack...however...check out the knox foam web site....they have several grades of material....they have a firm foam used primarily for seating purposes, mostly RV use...a little hard for sleeping however...I got the grade B I believe, in 4" thick for sleeping....they offer a wide variety of thicknesses and firmnesses....I got good reply to any questions that I had and quick turn around on the product...and again...I think the zippered cover is really a good option...keeps all sorts of dirt and moisture out of the mattress....I'm not too sure on a split chambered cover...but just drop them a note and ask....you will need to have exact dimensions on it....Doug

I'll restate what I put in the other post, which was probably lost in the clutter...lol. I'm having a 4-piece cushion set made from heavy duty foam at Foam Products. It's great for sitting, but they say too firm for sleeping unless you like sleeping on the floor. That's why I'll put a 2" or 3" memory foam topper on it for sleeping. The 3rd and 4th images on my Squidget page shows the bed in the couch position and you can see why I am using 4 pieces. The topper will be rolled up and placed on top of the two cushions not being used for the couch.

I live in Middle TN, so I plan to visit Know Foam (Knoxville, TN) in the Spring. This way I can test the firmness for sitting and sleeping.

I live about 85 miles from Foam Products. I plan on a trip to see them and check out their foam before I buy. If they can cut it the same day, I'll just wait for it. It's in Tarpon Springs, so we can sightsee while it's being prepared and have lunch on the waterfront.

hi, can any of you guys with multi piece mattress' let us know if the joins between segmants cause any problems while sleeping. I was considering a thin piece of foam, something like a pillow top matress, to roll out over the matress before sleeping on it. Is this needed or not?

That is what I plan to do. I've had campers with multi-part dinette cushion mattresses, but didn't sleep on any of them, as all of them also had one piece mattresses. One of my daughters usually slept on the multi-part ones. I'm having 4" foam cushions made for the couch/bed, but will get a 2" memory foam topper to put on top for sleeping, becuause the cushion foam that I am buying is mainly for sitting and a little too firm for sleeping, and sleeping comfort is a pirority.

I had a 21' Holiday Rambler with a 4 piece bench cushion/bed...I never had any problems sleeping on it...of course I was a mid 20's construction worker at the time and could sleep on nails after a 12/16 hour day...I do remember it being rather firm and would probably get a topper of some kind if I found myself in the same situation(like I could actually put in 16hrs at constuction anymore)

Speaking for my self, Yeah, getting old is a real B*$%h. I'll be 67 on Sunday, and right now, I'm feeling every year of it. Working 6-8 hours a day for the past two weeks, building my utility shed, has gotten my arthritis and tendonitis all riled up. Despite the Aleve, I go to bed hurtin' and wake up hurtin'. At least, it's done (excepts for soffits and cleaning up) and I can rest my poor joints. Thanks goodness, building the TTT won't be as hard. At least, I won't be using my antique 10 lb framing nailer and lifting 50 lb plywood sheets and shingles 9' up onto the roof.

However, despite those creaks and pops in the joints, I can relate to two country songs. George Jones "...I may be old, but I ain't impaired, I don't need yore rockin' chair..." and Toby Kieth "...I ain't as good as I once was, but I'm as good once as I ever was..."

When I told my wife that I wanted to do a sectional mattress, she told me how hard that type of joint was in her dad's class-c motorhome...Well, I did it anyway. No complaints!
