I guess I wasn't clear with my question. Question is when building your galley hatch and don't have the hurricane hinge in your possession : How much gap do you allow for at the top of the galley hatch between the galley header and the trailer header. How much space does the hurricane hinge require ?129816

If your going to use one of Grants hurricane hinges, don't worry about the gap. The hinge will establish the needed gap. Plan on a 4' hatch and locate your hinge board. Then with the hinge in place start your build of the hatch. Build it to and in the tear with 1/4" gap to each side between the side frames and the wall of the tear. Look at the hinge closely and you'll see that it not only attaches to the top of the hatch and hinge board but also buts up against both creating it own gap ;)
