hey all,
looking for ideas on building my galley.most of the pics here are of side views,how about some pics of your galleys.any ideas on swing out shelves and tables?

No particular ideas, but I'm shying away from pull-out anything.... while at h/f I saw this stove.... if I wasn't so far from needing it, I would have bought one..

I prefer simplicity.. easier to build and lighter.... big thing, keep the counter at the back end so you don't have to lean over to get to it... I have a van, so cooler goes in there... lots of room and easy to get to during the day as needed... galley is only for cooking.

Malcolm....awesome galley I really like the stainless look you have going....well thought out...if you're interested....Walmart has some really inexpensive wire baskets...square and other shapes that fit well into the galley area....chromed and pretty cheap....like 2-5$....I've got them on the shelf over my cupboards..work well to corral the spices and other stuff.....Doug

I added a couple of fun doodads: brackets to hold propane, lantern and stove. There's a cutting board back there too.
(edit note: I wish I could say I planned to put the cutting board back there but it just worked out that way)



We like the pull out shelf because it adds tons of counterspace.



I think I spent the most time looking at galleys when I was designing my trailer.

I agree with Bruce. I agonized endlessly over my galley and cabin cabinets. I kept changing my mind right up unti the very last minute. In the end this is what I came up with.



I have 3 sets of sliding cabinet doors in my upper galley cabinet. The left and center upper compartments have shelves. The right compartment has no shelf to hold tall boxes.

The counter is 3/4" ACX ply with a Formica top.

On the lower galley, I have a shelf for my cooler mounted on large slides on the left. The center compartnment hold a water jug. The right compartment has a silverware drawer. Below the silverware drawer, A door acceses my electrical comparment. The electrical compartment houses my battery, 12V fuse box, a 300W inverter and a battery charger. Not shown on the right side of the trailer body is a small hatch for bringing in shore power.

For cooking we use a Coleman Grill Stove on an a fold-up aluminum stand near the galley. This maximizes our counter space and keeps grease spatter and smoke out of the galley.

I know some folks keep the cooler in the car. I used to do that when tent camping. After a while, I got sick on schlepping that thing in and out of the car every day. Also, we've found that our ice lasts much longer with the cooler inside the galley hatch. Another advantage to keeping your cooler in the galley is it is much easier to access on the road.


After this photo was taken, I mounted a paper towel holder on the hatch next to the florescent light fixture. The jury is still out on that water jug. During our Florida trip, I had problems with the damn thing leaking on my galley floor.

I'm thinkiing about adding some kind of sound system next spring. I'm thinking of using my XM sattelite radio and a powered speakers. But, I still haven't figures out EXACTLY how I want to do it.

This was an inexpensive solution to lack of counter space on a tear I did a few years back.

That is the stove I use it is HOT, plus it has that vintage look. I dont have pullouts, but a table that rests on my counter with an adjustable leg. My galley is actually an antique desk that I cut up and set in the back.

That counter top must be strong with all that iron on it.

This is a great thread. I love all the pictures (just like Madjack). If everyone would post pictures of their galleys it would be a great resource for new builders. We should have a thread like this with pictures of tongue boxes, fenders, doors, hatches, etc.....

Great ideas for galley layout. I also like the wood look you are using on the side.
