Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

Hello all,

Ive been voraciously reading the forum over the last few months. So much helpful stuff! I'm building my teardrop and have gotten to the hatch phase. Jut this little bit to go then wrapping the whole thing in aluminum and she'll be on the road. I've searched through all the hing posts and can't seem to find how you attach the nonholed side of the hurricane hing to the galley skin. Seeing as how there are no holes drilled in mine, I'm assuming it's some kind of adhesive but I can't find specific instructions on here. What works best for attaching that side of the hinge to the galley? Also, I originally planned on the trailer being exactly 5 feet wide but ended up building an extending frame so that the inside is now five feet and the outside is 2.25 inches bigger. It seems as if running aluminum l molding along the corners is the a good way to get a seal. Is that correct? Thanks for any help!

Good question. I drill holes and screw that leg down too... with butyl tape under it.

Not all hurricane hinges are predrilled, I drilled not down, but on the vertical as Grants is.

Just drill holes on the undrilled side to match the drilled side.I used an old fashioned hinge that was undrilled. I made a quick jig for my drill press so all the holes would be edge spaced. I marked the center and spaced holes evey 3 inches except for the end which has two closer for strength.

I didn't drill the top side of the aft section and have never had any leaks. If you are going to drill, nstead of drilling holes on the non-drilled side to match the drilled side, I'd offset the spacing so you don't have fastener collision.

Thanks for the posts. Looks like theres lots of different ways to go about it. I imagine I'll just go ahead and drill the holes as that seems the best approach for the things I've got. Seems like it's about like everything else with teardrops. Lots of different options, all with good points.

Very timely. I am also working on my hatch and figured I'd better check back here before cutting, drilling, grinding, pounding, or praying...
