Need to cover exterior wall before skinning?

Do I need to add another layer of birch plywood to the exterior walls before aluminum or can I put the skin on without it? This is an older pic so I am much closer to being finished but it gives you an idea.

Another layer of 1/8 or 1/4 plywood, glued and screwed, would increase the rigidity of your trailer shell by a lot. If the aluminum skin gets hot in the sun, it's another layer keeping you cooler inside. And then again, there's the extra weight. What are you towing it with?

I would not add it, it will be plenty strong. Some original teardrops had just aluminum skin!

No personal experience here, but by the looks of your skeleton walls, with all of the beefy areas left, I would think you could easily get away with just AL.

Thanks for your feedback! I didn't mention but you all probably assumed I have a layer of birch ply on the inside. I guess you could file this under it might not be needed but couldn't hurt. I might just toss a coin.
I am towing with an Explorer.

Sweet!
I previously owned two A-body cousins - 1971 Buick Skylark GS 350 convertible and a 1970 Buick Skylark GS 455 Stage 1 hardtop. I wish I had kept one or both.

Nice Olds.
Ooh Tom, You've been holding out on us. You're a big block Buick lover, a Stage 1 GS 455? I have an early 70's Buick 455 along with a short tail BOP TH400 languishing in my garage for a someday project. Had thoughts of building a torque monster for my hot rod '72 Cheyenne Super C10.
Agreed, I never should have let the BBC '67 Super Sport Chevelle clone go, either.
