I am going to order my axle this week , any suggestions on the bests bang for the buck on a 2000lb torsion axle with mounts for breaks.
I would also appreciate any input on the specks that the company will require for dimensions.
The trailer frame will be 62” wide.
The rim / tires have a 5.5” backspace.
What would be the best hub to hub distance?
The starting angle?

I ordered mine from a Dexter dealer, I got this from their website and wrote it down.


The info you will need will be:

1 Gross Weight - I kinda guessed, on this. I hope to have it less than 1000 but I wasn't shure what it would come out to so I got a 2K axle.

2 Number of axles - This one is a no brainer

3 Brakes - I do not plan on using or needing brakes

4 Axle length - This was tricky, I took the wheel (with tire mounted) and put it flat on the ground. Then I measured from the floor to the bolt flange to get the true measurement then add an inch or two for the sidewall/tire clearance. Double that total and add it to the total width of your tear body.

5 Bolt Pattern - I used a 5X4.5 you are actually limited on this as the heavier axles aren't available with the smaller bolt circle.

6 Outside frame dimension - This is easy, just measure where the frame will go. My frame went inside a "Skirt" but most people just use the outside body dimension.

7 Torsion arm start angle - I guessed on this one too. I figured that 45 down would be too much and 0 may not be enough. I split the difference and got a 22.5 down angle. It is a little high but it tows flat when hooked up to my wife's SUV.

Oh there are some other things that they will ask.

Mounting type - Weld on or bolt on
You also have the option of the 6.5in hub flange. I think this is the default if you get the 5X4.5 bolt pattern though.

...62" frame rails, + tire offset x 2 = 11" =73 + clearance to frame...another 2" for 75"...is the body coming down over the frame...is so add that number(bothsides) to the 75 and that is your HUB to HUB measurement...we have the Flexiride and with 0% start angle and 205-70-15 tires we have 13" of ground clearance...so you have frame rails at 62'"s and a H2H of 75/76.5 and a start angle of choice

Thanks to all for the input.
The trailer will only have the siding on the outside of the frame so the 62” + 11” (offset x2) + 2”or 3” (frame clearance) for 76 H2H was what I was thinking. Thanks for the confirmation Madjack, and the 0 start angle with 13” of clearance should work for a good height behind my Camaro.

Now any suggestions on the bests bang for the buck on a 2000lb torsion axle with mounts for breaks part of the post.

I haven't been able to find 2000# with brakes, it seems like you have to go with a #3500# to get them or special order an axle. Let me know if you find one!

I know you can get the 2k torflex from Redneck and Lucky B with brake flanges but I can't say which others have them. I would think you can order them with the flanges from most places.

I bought my 2000lb torsion axle from centurywheel/quality axle store in Oregon. sized to my specs for $145.00 their web site is www.qtrailer.com
I am picking mine up at their store so I dont know what shipping would be. (the shipping for an axle shipped fron Texas was going to cost me $135.00!)

Flexiride can be had with brakes as can Torkflex, thru redneck trailers inna 2000# axle
