Framing support for AC unit

The picture is not exactly to scale but it shows the general layout I am going for. My question is, What would be the best way to support the weight of the AC unit so the shelf it will sit on doesn't bow?

I was thinking of making support frame boxes out of 1 x 2"'s ? To provide support for the lower shelf then a second box on top of that shelf to support the shelf the AC unit will sit on.

I was thinking 1/2" plywood for the shelves in order to save weight rather than using 3/4".

What do you all think? Any better way to go?

My A/C unit is supported by 1/2in ply. The shelf bowed until I put that lip on it, but now it supports the A/C unit without any flex. there's not any additional supports under the shelf. It's just screwed in through the sides and back.

Nice installation on the A/C unit! I wish I had done similar on my teardrop.

BTW, I love the flag on the wall of your garage. Gig'em

hahaha no, no actual ATMs in my garage. If there was, it'd be empty after buying supplies to build my teardrop! And thanks, aggie, an A&M element or two may also make its way into my build.

Lagadelphia - the unit weighs in at a stout 50 lbs. http://www.lg.com/us/air-conditioners/lg-LW6016R
