How I Get Gas...

Propane...though it kinda smells the same

Since like most folks, I dislike running out of gas at the worst moment, I've added fittings to a standard setup so that when the tank runs dry, a disposable bottle can be attached.

I suppose when the 1lb tank is empty, you can fill it with the larger tank. All you would have to do is leave the 1lb tank attached while you turn on the refilled big tank.

Mike,

It is an 11# tank.

It stands 12.75" tall.
The mounting ring on the bottom is the same size as a 5# and a 20#.
It may be the same as larger tanks too, but I never checked...

The first nipple is a drip leg, to catch excess moisture, rust, or scale.

Here are a couple shots of the tank fitting,




If that isn't what you meant...the large tank mounts to the tongue by means of two bolts that have a hole drilled into the end for a security ring (kind of like a cotter pin).

The "mount" is a piece of steel stock bent roughly into a U shape and welded onto the tongue.

The upturned legs of the U are drilled for the bolts, which pass through the factory mounting holes on the tank.

Thanks for posting the link, that setup sure is quick and easy!

I considered using that hose, but because of the desire to keep something of a retro look, the shiny brass won over.

Along with a lot of other folks, I'm all for being prepared, and the industry sure is meeting the demand.
Try to find something like that 10 years ago...

Another cool "invention" is the now affordable "weather stations" with remote sensors, and lots of doo-dads!

Has a clock, indoor temp, outdoor temp, humidity, and about 20 other functions I haven't figured out yet.

Interesting how as the years go by, our definition of "camping" goes from cuddling up to our girlfriend to stay warm on cold hard ground in a tent, to deciding which DVD's to bring for the palace on wheels...

I'm not Coop, but....

It allows you to hook one end of the hose to a bulk tank (5# on up) and the other end will hook to any LP appliance you have.

A way to avoid having to buy/use a lot of disposable bottles.

I know one of these "Extenda" products allows you to screw in a disposable propane bottle once your bulk tank runs dry (the same effect as Rob has so nicely created) THUS extending your stay...

Just a alternative to those who may not have the plumbing skills Rob has...

I'm going to figure out which one, I'll be back.
