Axle

Postby Bandit » Thu Feb 02, 2006 11:20 pm

I am planning a 4' X 5' X 8' TD. I had planned a 5' X 5' X 10', but after researching the side wall material, 5' X 8' paneling is not very common. So, I will go 4 X 8 for the sides with a 5' wide. I want to use oak plywood for the sides and maple on the inside. I will use 5' wide aluminum for the top. I can get this from a family member that has a sign making business.

To my question!
Can anyone give me the specs for a torsion axle for a 5' (60" edge to edge) wide TD? Dimensional specs as well as a specific axle from a manufacturer that will meet my needs.
Thanks,
Steve

my axle is from centurywheel/quality axle it measures 60" from outside of the mount flange and 73"at the wheel flanges. it is the same as a dexter #9 and is rated at 2000lbs and the angle of the arms are 10degrees down.
I paid $142.95 for it at their store in wilsonville Oregon near Portland.
I am very happy with it but would buy it with 0degree arms next time. I have about 15"from the frame to the ground and with a 0 degree I would have about 13". they (Quality and Dexter) make all their axles to order so youcan get about any width you want, but they all have a hub face to axle mount flange width difference of about 12 1/2"minium
The difficult we do now... the impossible takes a little longer

Bandit, Check this thread. There is a lot of info on axles, swingarm clearance, hub to hub spacing, etc. The Dexter and Flexiride are discussed here.
