Approriate Tongue Box for a Modernistic/Cub...

I'm working on wacking Andrew's Modernistic CAD design, and am wondering if I could do an appropriate tongue box for it. I want something that echos the eliptical curves.

Something rectangular, would IMHO ruin the lines.

Does anyone have any ideas, pix, etc?

Thanks in advance,

rob

You could start by looking at what madjack's done:

You know, tongue box's are something that wasn't. It's something that has come about with the reconstruction/restoration of the old and build of the new. So as for as a tongue box, go with what you would like. For me a vintage ice chest worked.

This is what the guys up north did with thier 5 wides.

Have a good day.

I'd say you need something with a radius from the top to the front and another radius from the front to the underside, to echo the shape of the trailer body - I don't think you have to go to ellipses to match.

I would say keep away from the tapered plan shape as in Gage's photo, as that makes for an awkward (and un-drawable) shape where the tongue box meets the body. Just use a constant-width tongue box - say, 3/4 the width of the trailer body.

That's what I think - but whadda I know?

Aw Andrew,

That's pretty exotic... I'm not sure I have room on my tongue for something that fancy. But what do I know? Do you have a quick and dirty 2d sketch of your minds eye?

This is what I was thinking [the tongue box barely shows up, sorry about that, I'm slowly learning QCAD, between core dumps]:

Andrew, is this what you were thinking?

I am personally unsure how this would come out. I can't visualize it in 3d.

That's the profile I am going to attempt. I'm building a 5 wide, Going to make the box 4 wide.

Rob,

I would say that was close to 'spot on' - the only thing I would do is try to get the top skin to go nearer horizontal where it meets the body. But that would depend on whether you can bend it that much.

Making the bottom of the box lie on top of the tongue, rather than going down to level with the bottom of the tongue, might make it a lot easier to build.

I would do a sketch, but I've exceeded my album limit, so I need to do a clear-out of old stuff first!
