I plan to drop the floor in my new project in order to maintain the headroom. Anyone have any details (pics, link to journals, etc.) on how they have constructed a dropped floor?

This is what I did. The picture shows the floor upside down. Just remember the drop can't be deeper then the suspension allows, or you will hit stuff.

Do you stand in the drop section or use it for storage?

Something to think about are road hump. I live in fear of bashing into one.

I have a drop floor in my TD, but I made it strong enough to stand in but it has thin ply walls which are edge-on weekly jointed.
If it comes into hard contact with an immovable object it should disinterested without ripping the floor off.
To this end its just screwed at the sides.

I appreciate the responses. As it turned out, I had an advantage of my trailer frame cross members being in a perfect location that allowed me to bolt the sides of my drop box directly to the frame. I used 1X5 lumber to box the sides and 3/4" ply for the bottom which gave me a 5 1/4" drop inside and kept the bottom of the box 3/4" above the low point on the axle. I don't plan to run off road so I'm not worried about any clearance issues. Grrr, no pictures of past projects, but mine are similar to what have been presented. Wise decision to use 1x5's to box out the compartment. On most campers, it seems than anything more than a 6-inch drop will result in big-time clearance issues. The closer you can move the compartment to the axle, the less risk you're taking.
