an idea: like a chaise lounge?

I had this thought yesterday, and did a little sketching but you know how lounge chairs or chaise lounges at the swimming pools, etc. You can adjust how tilted you want your head and shoulders to be?
I got that in my mind because if watching tv or reading while "laying" in the tear, how would I sorta elevate my head , like a lounging position, besides stuffing three extra pillows under me?
So I wonder if you engineer types can come up with some way to have an adjustable rod or something to where you can create a "chaise lounge" type tilt.....
does that make sense? I realize this would mean an extra peice of wood on top of the 1/2 ply floor for the dado's or the support bar...

KEWL! !!! And not very expensive either... I don't see it in your photos on your profile... how did you attach that? to the floor board but then did you put 1/2" or 1/4" on top of the floor board to have something as the "backboard"...
if a picture paints a thousand words.....

Julie-
Sorry!
I just have a pic of the sofa/bed upright in my gallery.
Mine was built using the top of the wheel wells as a partial support and then 2 x4 horizontal support frame for the adjustable back mechanisms (I built over the wheels).
For a flat floor mount I guess you could -strip/shim up/offset- the main floor area the thickness of the mechanism, hinge the back onto the main floor and then attach the mechanism to the sub floor & the back?
I used 15/32" ply for the whole works!

Coop

Most people use a custom mattress from companies such as Knox Foam. If you build this mechanism above the floor, could you notch out the foam for the space needed by the board and lift mechanism?

That's what I'm thinking, but more like ... cutting out a relief in the 1/2" floor to attach the bracket, and would have to put some extra support under the 1/2" floor... or make some kind of webbing type support , like they have in those summer pool chairs...
I guess a cardboard mock up would be a good idea now...

Julie-
Is your floor done yet?
How 'bout offsetting the floor itself, like 4' for your legs, dogleg down the thickness of the bracket, then 3' for your torso.
Hinge your backrest at the dogleg. Cut your backrest panel like 1/2" narrow on the sides and 2" shorter (So that the backrest doesn't bind/hit the sides of the TD and short so you can get your hand behind the backrest to make adjustments).
Just me thinking....

Yep, it's time for a mockup... don't forget the picture of the mockup too!
