So built my frame walls out of 1 x 4 material. I got the cut for the roof splines. But the cut for the hatch I am confused.
I am using 3/8” plywood on the outside, then aluminum over that
Cutting the pieces from each side not sure how to cut that the “Dan rambles” videos show him marking a it 2” and the curve at the hinge, but besides hoping you can cut with a jigsaw that perfect is there a better way?

Also
Questions
Do I put the 3/8” skin on before cutting these hatch pieces?
It seems he puts an 1/8 piece on the inside as well?

I got the Frederick Manuel and watched the dan ramble you tube. But it’s like both skipped Thur this so fast

Thanks for any help

I agree the manual cover most but was not super clear on the hatch, so if you go to his web site and look at his builds especially the Lil Dinners #1 5th page (click next 5 times, or see link below) he shows cutting the hatch out with a jig saw. I did this on my build (see page 2) and just went slow, it doesn't have to be perfect just follow the line using a fine tooth bit, and don't use much forward pressure or you will not cut straight down through. Yes the sides are already skinned inside and out. I used 1/8 Baltic birch skins inside and out but you can use whatever you want depending on the weight you are going for.

Also check out the Galley page for the same build as it shows building the galley walls and gussets for the hatch

Don’t scrimp on the jigsaw blade. Bosch or Starrett (sp?) Go slow with no side pressure and you’ll be fine.

And yes. Have both sides of your walls skinned.

I'm not sure if this will help, but today I watched all of the Dad Rambles YouTube Hatch videos to get a good understanding of what is to come, as I'm about to cut the hatch ends hopefully tonight or Thursday. I made a few pages of notes, and they are actually edited specifically to my build. Here they are in case they might help you or others:

Thank you for the help. I got the cuts done pretty happy with it.
