Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

A few days ago, under another topic, we were discussing the potential for a tree, or tree branch to fall on a trailer.
While fortunately not common, it does happen.

This one happened a bit north of us during the New Years storm that blew across Northern Ca.

I voted for "I don't worry because my roof is strong," which I know is total nonsense:

Although my spars ARE overbuilt, any decent sized limb coming down is going to make a huge crunch. But that can happen when you're just taking a WALK too, totally unprotected. So it's not something you can worry about.

The best selection for me wasn't there:

"I don't worry because I don't think I'm ever gonna FINISH this thing to actually go camping and have something to actually worry about!"

As you all should know we are the country with funny animals and we also have trees that have some very bad habits. The Red Gum, found on the banks of most creeks in outback Australia has the nickname of "The Widowmaker" from its habit of dropping branches. We are not talking twigs here, a bloke playing golf was killed by a branch that had an estimated weight of 3 tonne( approx 6600 pounds) just before Christmas. So over here we tend to keep away from the shady spots.

Falling trees are something I think about, it does happen.

I live in a 5th wheel, in the woods, if I was too worried I would be in bad shape here. I did vote "worry a little" because I do tend to look up during and after a good wind just to check. Seems most of the trees around here are rather considerate where they drop their limbs, mostly missing the vehicles, campers and pets........

Now I will worry more than before. Seriously, I never gave it much thought until I saw the "General Sherman" tree in Sequoia National Park. When I heard that one branch was as big around as a car, I didn't feel to comfortable standing under it (insert Emoticon with eyes looking up here).
When camping, I am usually more fearful of lightning hitting a nearby tree. George.

This one thing we always stressed to the Boy Scouts. We went to the Boundary Waters a few years ago canoing, and a lady had been killed the week prior after a limb fell on her tent.
ALWAYS look up before you set up your campsite. High winds can come up during the night.

About twenty years ago shortly after I started working at Portland International Airport a pilot from United was on vacation and was killed when a boulder fell on his truck while pulling his trailer, his wife was not seroius hurt.

I always look up and around when outdoors...camping or not...several years ago, a large group of us were booney camping deep in the woods on the bank of a river...while we were all sitting around the camp, during the afternoon, an enormous Bitter Pecan on the bankedge fell. It landed between the group and a 6yr old girl playing about 20ft away...as we recoverd our wits and ran to the tree to see see if the little girl was ok, still playing, she looked up at all of us sticken adults and said..."daddy the tree, it fall down" and went back to playin'...we all went and cleaned out our shorts

Just be careful when we get to Beaver's Bend................we haven't had enough rainfall this past 12 months to keep the limbs on the trees. I've lost a lot here on my property.

I check it out when I choose a site. I recommended a campground to a guy, he went and said the trees was to tall. Afraid of one fallin'. It was one of the places we ever camped at.

This is my back yard last year. It was a manitoba maple. My solution? Cut down the tree.

DITTO! Joplin is bone dry. Live under 10 fairly good size Oaks.
Lately I look up a lot. Don't camp under trees or power lines.
