Generic Walls

Postby Gary T » Tue Feb 21, 2006 6:11 pm

Hey everyone

If I plan on insulating the walls in the generic benroy do I still need to use 3/4" plywood?
I am thinking of using 1/2" ply then straping the walls with 1" and insulating the cavities with foam and then using 1/8" something over top.
I have seen this done on other builds, and assume that the walls are 1/2" thick.
But you know what assume usually means...

ps: Budapest was great, we won a bronze medal, and Borsodi(beer) is great tasting. If I get a pic of the team I will post it.

Gary,

1/4" plywood, 3/4" insulation, and 1/4" plywood will do just fine. Just make sure you put 3/4" wood behind areas you plan on fastening things of structure to.
Chris :D

Check out this build site: Lil Diner by Steve Frederick

Gary, That is exactly what I did. I think 1/4" would be fine too.

The bottom 1" X 3" sits on top of the floor and the remaining ply covers the frame. The screws were removed after the glue had dried. BTW, this is the Generic Benroy profile. More build pic's here. http://tnttt.com/album_ ... SC&start=0

I'm thinking of doing what bledsoe3 did with his but with 1/8" outside covered with a single layer of glass cloth, probably a 4 harness satin weave since it's clear when it cures.

Overkill? Dunno... thoughts?
