Hi everyone,
I hardly ever post,no need to you guys have usually all ready answer all the questions I've had.but I do have a question that I have searched the archives to no avail,I'm in the process of gathering parts and pieces to start a 6x12 square drop. My question is on the underside of the floor, most of you paint the underside with tar or fence paint has anyone tried or considered plastic wall panels sold at HD or lowes for shower panels or food service walls.
Thank Robert

Most people don't cover the underside of the floor because it can trap water and cause rot, rather than inhibiting. Many use truck bed liner. Mine is just painted with exterior house paint.

I'm with Chas. You don't want something that could trap water.
And speaking of trapping (as in dinosaurs in the tarpits), tar-based roofing products worked for this for decades. In the 30's and 40's that's what they had to work with. The stuff will still work but times have changed and there are many more choices.
I use epoxy. It soaks into the wood and plasticizes it. An alternative is three coats of back-to-back thinned oil-based polyurethane --as much as the wood will soak up.
With either process the floor will stay dry and won't delaminate or rot.

I epoxied mine and then sprayed it with undercarriage spray that I got at the local auto parts store. (Probably over-kill)
I sprayed it with one spray can's worth and then went over it again with a 2nd (5x8' floor). Over 9 years and no problems yet.
A dearly departed trailer builder (Gage) said he simply sprayed all his decks' undersides with undercarriage spray and never had a problem.
