Is a used, working pop-up lift system worth saving?

I think there is very little interest in this, but, I don't want to scrap it out if someone can use it for a pop-top or other design roof. Today's gas struts and light weight roof builds leads me to believe that no-one would be interested. Just checking.

I would disagree. Such a system would facilitate a higher lift than pneumatic lifts and would be perfect for a Hi-Lo style build.

It's a challenging and expensive thing to fabricate from scratch. I'm sure someone would want it.

Thanks for that Pat. I will attempt to save it. Doesn't look too difficult from the topside. Haven't looked underneath.

Mostly done with the demo project. Lift system still intact. Deciding what to do next may take some time. In the meantime I'll entertain the thought of selling the lift system and/or trailer chassis.

Well, I'd have to answer that the same way I answered Qbill. I think you could find a more economical chassis on the west coast. But, hey, are you talking four digits for this thing?

Found some time to remove the lift system components on the Viking popup chassis. Fairly simple process with an impact driver and sockets..

Thought I would weigh all those parts and they came out to 89.6 lbs including fasteners.

There was some discussion in a different thread about how much a pop up chassis weighs and if it was a good choice for a light weight build. So, as long as I'm getting carried away I pulled out the jack and scale and gave it a go. Tongue weight is now 58.1 lbs. Axle at both wheels were 192.1 and 203.7 lbs. That's with the spare wheel, it's bracket and the plastic wheel fenders on the chassis. Otherwise striped clean to a bare metal chassis.

453.9 lbs. That's for a 130" x 83" chassis with Dexter torsion axle and 13" wheels/tires.

I don't think shipping the lift system would be worth the trouble so I will hold on to it for month or so until chassis #2 is striped and then go to the scrap yard. Though I'd be open to any offer for scrap value or more.

Post it up on the Facebook TD page as well. I also see plenty of value there!

Thanks, I'm not on FB but my wife is. I'll take a look.

Oh boy! There's a bazillion groups. Any suggestion which one is the preferred one?

I had the same issue when I converted a Jayco pop-up to a retro standy (see avatar). I was just trying to give the old lift system to someone who could make some use of it. I placed ads here on the TNTTT forum and the Jayco forum for several months with no response. I finally put it on the "free stuff" section of Craigslist and after several weeks I got a taker.

I just received an inquiry about the lift system. Well actually he offered to buy the chassis for less than half what I was asking. He is coming over today to see what I have. Not sure he knows what he needs and I'm sure I don't know if it will be useful to him. This should be interesting.

Update: Yeah, interesting. On Marketplace still, in an effort to ask him exactly what he was looking for the guy got a little ticked at me cause I asked him the same question twice then started to lecture me about pricing my trailer and that it is nothing but scrap (site unseen of course). But yeah, he still only wants the lift parts but felt it was necessary to insult me about the trailer price anyway. God you gotta love it. So, still available.
