Hello. I'll be installing the Trim Lok seal shown in the attached photo for use in the door jamb for the door to close up against. There's a lip (a rib) I've created in the jamb for the "U" shape of the seal to snap over.
My question is should there be caulk used in the U shape (like ProFlex) or is it just a dry fit , snapping it over the rib?

I'd probably just snap it on. Sealer would be messy. And, if it turns out you do need to seal it, it would be easy enough to do later.

After further inspection of the TrimLok catalog it says the seal "can" be used with butyl caulk. I also inquired at TrimLok and the answer received was "It is not typical to use sealant caulk on the U shape".

So ..... I think for now I'll just dry fit it. As Mick mentioned, I can always add something at a later date. Or... I may add some butyl caulk to the mix
Guess it will be a judgment call when I get to it.

Mine's slip fit and I don't think it's needed.

I believe there is a row of aluminum "fingers" inside the channel that act like a one way "check valve" of sorts, kind of locking the channel on once it has been slipped onto the flange. I don't think it's intended to come off easily once it has been installed, at least not without scratching up the flange some.

I don't plan on using anything when I install mine. The channel is basically a big rubber gasket, and the little rubber lip inside the channel should act like a mechanical seal.

I plan on putting the butt end at the bottom middle of the door, that way gravity should keep anything from getting by, but if not, maybe just a little weatherstrip adhesive to seal the cut ends of the bulb to itself.
