another hurricane hinge question

Postby Capebuild » Thu Apr 21, 2022 3:58 pm

My hinge came with an aluminum bar. It's about 3/8 inch thick by the width of the hinge portion (I had meant to measure it to get an actual dimension, but that's probably close).....
I imagine this is used under the hinge section that goes on the roof to raise it up. Am I guessing correctly?
Is it used for some fine adjustment... if it were used it would kind of skew the entire hatch placement.....
Any thoughts on this would be helpful. Thanks!

Not sure what you have there John. We just had the two pieces of hinge. Maybe pictures would help?

I went back to the site where the hinge was purchased at Vintage Technologies (probably should have done this before I posted the question)
and I see it's called an "offset hinge" (see attached). Says the extra bar offsets the hinge so the hinge itself doesn't need to be notched. But I'd think it also raises the hinge (by 1/4 inch, along with the hatch) which would probably change the way the hatch is positioned.
Not sure I'll use it... and just notch the hinge

and actually my hinge profile looks more like the first picture.... (with the fancy interlocking shape)
