Does Aluminum Insert Get Adhesive

I'm about to install the insert vinyl cover in the aluminum hurricane hinge (see attached pict). Does that get any kind of sealant over the 2 aluminum flange edges where the vinyl snaps in place.. or is the vinyl insert meant to be just kind of snapped in place so it can be removable if necessary?

thanks

John

John, it really doesn't need any sealant but I put some at the ends to minimize shrinkage.

Grant Whipp came up with the idea to put a seal behind the hinge to keep water from flooding it while open.
We have a canopy over it when it rains but rain from the roof will flood the hinge and leak into the galley.
Grant's idea is spot on to remedy the problem.
It's a good idea to put a small washer and screw at the ends to minimize shifting of the hatch.

I used the stuff you are going to use. Mine shrank and did not seem to seal out dirt or water. I switched to the following:

This will be my first season with it, but seals to the trim molding better to keep dirt and water out. Not suppose to shrink. Seems to me to be a better product.

Just an FYI.

The insert is for appearance only, it's not designed to keep water or dirt out.
