I am planning to tow my tear with the VW - the tear is alot higher than the Bug when I hook it up - is this going to be a problem? Is there something I can do to lower the tear or raise the Bug.

Thanks

...if you have a receiver hitch, they make a drawbar with upto a 5r6 inch rise for in it.............................. 8)

Thanks for the reply - the one I have is about 4" rise - I will look for a higher one.

I think ours has closer to a 6" rise. We've got a hidden hitch on a 2000 TDI Beetle. I also built the TD lower than normal so it would line up with the Bug better.

If you have a spring suspension on your TD, check to see if the axel is mounted above or below the springs. If below the springs, you may be able to mount it above the springs and gain a couple of inches.

If you have an adjustable torsional axel, you may be able to change the
anagle to get it to sit lower. If it's a fixed torsion, not much you can do as far as the axel is concerned.

Might also be able to lower it a little by changing the tires and or wheel size. Someone (I think it was Andrew) posted a chart with tire heights a while back.

There are two possible 'problems' you may be describing:

1) Your Cubby is nose-down when hitched to the Beetle - Madjack has answered that one.

2) Your Cubby is higher overall than the Beetle and you want to minimise drag - you can switch the axle on an HF trailer so that it is fixed above the spring instead of below the spring - this will lower the trailer several inches. If you search through the posts, you should find some discussion and photos of doing this. I think you need to notch the axle mounting bracket to provide clearance.

I will try to lower the axle - I built it in the under springs position.

Thanks
