Weekender Plywood size

Hi,

I decided to build the weekender and have a few questions. I have the frame, and floor done. I cut out the sides tonight and have them installed. I'm using 3/4" plywood on the sides, But was wondering what do you think would be the best thickness of wood for the front, top and back?

I was thinking of going with 1/2" and would go thinner if possible.

Thanks,

The best thickness is whatever you can put screws into, without splitting the wood. If you can do it with 1/2", go for it. If you find it splitting too much, try something thicker.

The option is to glue some strips of pine to the roof panels, and put your screws into that.

Mike,
remember that corner/eave I couldn't build without collapsing it?
The solution is a rabbetted strip of wood that ''slots'' the roof and wall together.

Thanks for the replys.

I was thinking of the pine strips as you described. I'm trying to keep the weight down as much as possible, But don't want t run into problems after is is built. I will be towing it with a Subaru, So I dont want it to heavy, But also want it to hold up.

Ron,

If you are using spars from side to side, you should be able to go with 1/4" or less. I plan to have one sheet of 5MM (just over 1/8") Baltic Birch under my spars (inside, for a cieling), a set of 3/4" x 2" spars with insulation between them, and a sheet of 5MM Baltic Birch on top, with .050 aluminum over that.

I used 5/8 ply, no spliting and worked well.
