First Parts Arrive

Postby KA » Tue Jun 20, 2006 11:19 pm

Hi Teardroppers,
My first parts arrived today so the build has officially started. I received two stabilizing jacks and felt like a kid in a candy store. Mind you, I don't have anything to stabilize yet except my brain, but the jacks are a start. I also finally made some decisions. I'm going with a 2000 pound axle, 13 inch tires, 5 x 8 size and probably the Generic Benroy profile with a modified galley. I want the trailer sides to hang on the outside of the trailer frame to reduce moisture accumulation in our rainy climate and am doing some excel charts to compare different options for the chassis. Tonight, I will read the Tongue Strenth info from the design library and see if I can figure out where to put the axle. I also sent a check to Steve Frederick and eagerly await the shop manual to see how I can combine some of his cool techniques with the Generic Benroy plan. This is going to be great fun. Hope you all won't get tired of my questions. I'm sure there will be many.

I printed the Generic Benroy plans twice. I ended up using the profile only. Mine ended up 5x8 on a TS frame fully insulated. Just keep reading and gathering ideas as you build. Have fun.
Good day every day!
