I am just finishing off my teardrop now.

What kind of prop works best for the hatch?
What are you using? Can you post a picture of it?

Whichever system looks/works best will be going into my camper.

Thanks,

Ben

Hatch Sticks

Hi Ben

I think that there are lots of ways to prop open a hatch. Near the end of my build, I wanted to keep it simple, knowing that I could always upgrade to another kind of prop or gas strut latter. So I just used two sticks. I have them notched on the end that sits on the counter top edge. They are simple and they work.

A lot of other good ideas have been posted on the forum, too

As always your way, for your needs should have a high priority.

When I built my first teardrop I really wanted gas struts... but I didn't plan for them... as a result I had to use sticks in the galley... Here are my sticks...

Here's my design for a wood prop to hold up the hatch of a Rimple:

Image
If you only see a red X, then TRY HERE

A piece of 1x2 bolted to the hatch rib - when the hatch is lifted far enough, it drops into a plywood socket on the sidewall. A piece of dowel runs between the two props so that both can be disengaged from their sockets with one hand while the other hand is taking the hatch weight.

PS Also an experiment in using a Picasa free web album (250Mb) to post photos here, as I'm running out of bandwidth on teardrops.us. Seems to work OK so far.[/url]

Andrew, for some reason I can't see your picture. It is an X and I tried to put the pointer onto it nothing?

What ever you use make sure it's secured to the hatch and body as a strong gust of wind canflip your hatch over. Seen it happen twice

...are you having troubles with other pics...it could be a security setting or possibly a popup blocker at work here.......

I'm having the same problem Arthur has with the photo, I right clicked on it and did the show photo thing and then tried copy & pasting the URL into the browser, that brought up a forbidden message.
strange.

hmmmmm, how strange...when I first pulled up this post this evening I saw the red X and right clicked ot and chose "view image" (Mozilla browser)...it has shown up ever since...could it possibly be the popup blocker on IE ....I dunno...

p.s....I wonder if it is because it is onna Google server and IE (MS) doesn't wanna play fair...

OK, so it seems that this doesn't work for everyone - probably it's one of those cases where I have authority to see it and no-one else does.

Dang - 250Mb free seemed like a good deal!

Here is a second try, showing a galley with a completely different hatch strut problem. Yes, the original photo is low-res.
