New Guy needs advice on floor

Been wanting to do this for over 2 years and now I have a summer off (I teach), so here we go...

Just got the steel (2 x 3 with 1/8 wall) for laying the trailer base and am wondering how to attach the floor to the trailer , which will be 6 x 8. I know I am jumping ahead but want to begin thinking about laying out the walls and floor insulation. Let me know what you think.

Oh, I will take photos of the build and will begin again if this rain on the eastern coast ever leaves. Thanks in advance.

I bolted the floor down thru a hole drilled right thru the tube. You can also have tabs welded to the tube specifically for mounting the floor. I didn't bother to countersink the bolt heads. They stick up but you'd never know it because the mattress covers it up.

Just weld in tabs like these.

Welcome doubleF, remember to take plenty of pics as that is the price we charge for all the info you could want(and more)...we do luv da pics around here...we built our tear completely independent of the trailer frame...after completion we used self tapping 1/4 bolts thru the sides to attach the box and frame together...5/8th ply floor no insulation except the 4" foam mattress on top of it...

My outside trailer frame will be 2" box by 1/8. Do you think the 1/4 self tapping bolts thru the top will secure it ok (as opposed to thru drilling)? And will a 5/4 framed floor sheeted with 1/2" AC sheeting be stiff enough for a 5' wide? Trying to keep the weight down, ya know.

If I welded or started new I would put tabs in. Got my idea here from Tony and put T nuts in, bolted with 3/8 hex bolts through the ends and sides in the cross rails. Just drilled right through the floor with a titanium self starting bit. Only broke my wrist once.

Dave, I would say yes to both...we used 5 of the self tapping blots per side (1/8th wall tube)...as I stated we went thru the sides so the is no pull on the bolts only shear...we used 5/8th ply for the floor, laid directly on the steel frame, on future builds we will use 1/2"
