Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

We finished our Tear Drop trailer last weekend and took it out for it’s maiden voyage! We went camping along California’s costal Highway 1. We both really enjoy the ease with which camp can be set up or taken down.

Here are some pictures of our finished rig, as well as a few shots of it out in the real world doing what it was made to do, helping us camp in style.









Finally, I just want to thank everyone for all their informative posts--without this forum our TD would have never made it through to completion.

Your tear looks great. I am blown away by how neat or smooth everyone's tear looks. I am using spray paint on my roof, but it does not conceal any of the boo boos that I made when using fasteners.

Hey congratulations on your trailer! I like everything about this, from the size to the finish. Nice color scheme and wood trim, too. Well done!

Thanks for sharing the pictures. Your Teardrop looks great! It seem you did finish it rather quickly and now it's off to camp. Good for you. We took ours out for the first time a couple weeks ago and it was a real joy.

Just curious, have you had it weighed?
Did you finish the inside?
Did you insulate the roof or floor?

Seeing yours in red just convinced me to paint the "Ugly" in red...

Mitchell, I like it. What a great feeling to take the maiden voyage. I can still remember mine. I've returned to the same place many times, and the campground manager as well as the other campers always take a liking to the (unusual) teardrop camper. They just do that to people.

The teardrop experience will grow and become an obsession (if you let it), which is not a bad thing. Enjoy it to the fullest.

It took us about a month and a half start to finish, but my wife had a week of vacation and we probably won’t have another shot at that much time till December.

To answer your questions, thanks to some our minimal camping needs, our lack of construction experience/tools, and time, our trailer is not quite as outfitted as many of the awesome ones here, but it works excellent for our purposes.

We didn’t feel we could construct good looking cabinets, so we just put in a *removable* shelf.

As far as electricity, we didn’t put in a battery or wire it for electricity, which eliminated a lot of the more difficult steps. What we did as far as power is put in a little cover thing for a power cord, which we can plug into RV electric hookups if we stay in such a camp, which we did during this last trip, allowing us to run our fan/DVD player. We do plan on eventually purchasing one of those rechargeable battery backup things, which should fit in the hatch space.

We mainly wanted something that looked cool, and kept us dry, no more, “don’t touch the sides” tent syndrome.

Thanks again for all your guy’s help, after finishing this one up, I have lots of ideas for what would work better on the next one!

You really put together a great rig in short order...now comes the fun part...using it...it appears that the pup has found his/her place...funny how dogs love these things...in my case, I don't know if she is sleeping in my tear or if I am sleeping in her big dog house!! If you can make it...there's a place for you at the Redwoods....Doug
