Andy, Mike and Janet!!!

Postby mikeschn » Sat Nov 06, 2021 12:35 pm

Hey Guys,

We are all mortal... and with covid here, we are all especially mortal! So my concern, being the mortal that I am, is how do I keep this forum going should something happen to Chell or I?

Become incorporated? Nah! Too much hassle...

Give it to my kids? Nah! They are not interested!

Who could possibly be interested in keeping this forum going?

Ah ha... I found someone, actually a group of someones, that would be willing to keep the forum going no matter what happens. For now, let's just call them Andy, Mike and Janet!!!

Andy, Mike and Janet would host the forum on their own server, they would keep everything that we've set up here, posts, photos, and what not... in addition, they would set it up so that I no longer have to sign up members manually. Wow, that sounds like a win!

I've been thinking about this, talking to Andy about this for almost 10 years already. But this year I realized I am ready to make the change! So I went ahead and did the deal. Andy, Mike and Janet have the forum now. May it last longer that way! BTW, they go by the name of SocialKnowledge. If in the event you receive anything from SocialKnowledge.com don't be alarmed, it's not spam!

Meanwhile I'll still be around... I might have more time to write now, since I am no longer signing up members! Ha! I also need to update the Hall of Fame...and find all my PDFs... so much to do so little time...

But that's enough for now... Please welcome Andy, Mike and Janet of SocialKnowledge. Thanks...

Mike...

Slowly raises hand.....

Thanks for the warm welcome. I'm looking forward to helping out and somewhat relieved to learn that Mikeschn will be sticking around. He and Chell have done an amazing job growing a tight community of extremely helpful folks and many. many teardrop builders have benefitted.

I live in WA state and have been involved with forums for many years but - full disclosure, I'm not a teardrop owner... I was a diehard tent camper for years until the ground got hard (somewhere north of 40) and so bought a 40 year old small airstream that needed some love. It had holes in the floor, mice in the walls, a collection of empty gin bottles and little else. I joined a forum to learn how to fix it and besides getting that info I learned that there are awesome communities of people with shared interests and great discussions. Hooked.

In the past days the forum has been moved to a larger server that is a bit faster and also is updated to https (more secure). Notifications e-mails have been updated and so you may begin getting subscription updates from the site (they come from a Social knowledge address). You can disable these if you like in your user settings here: ucp.php

Registration has been updated as well to make it a little easier so that new folks can set up accounts a little more easily. I'm hoping that we can make the circle bigger and find a few folks to help moderate the forum so if you are logging in regularly and interested please send Mike or me a note about your interest. Communities are best when they are managed by members who regular participants and knowledgeable about topic at hand.

Post up if you have questions or see something amiss and I'll try to help out.

Mike,
Thank you for all the hard work that has gone on here! I don’t know how much more difficult my build would have been without this place but I do know a lot more…

Janet,
Thanks to you guys for picking up the Baton.
Photos of the Airstream please! :D

Wow Mike, you had me for a moment, thought we had lost some members
I have and still enjoy this forum you created back in 2004 it was so helpful in my first & subsequent builds.
Some have come and gone, still miss the creativeness and friendship of Doug Hodder.
This forum has endured and with your foresight it will live on thanks to you  Andy, & Janet, welcome abord Janet :shake hands: . :applause:
Glad it's secure so my MacAfee software will chill out now.
Hope to see Janet and her small Airstream at a Northwest gathering someday.

Thanks so much! :D Danny

A few years ago I was at Deming (log show grounds near Bellingham) and spent a lovely afternoon touring some spectacular teardrops but I'm not sure what group/s were there. The trailers were awesome - some fancy, some plan and all suitable for excellent fun. The rigs are cool but the people are cooler. Interesting, innovative, independent and adventuresome.

Hopefully your virus software is happier now. I expect very little will change here but in the coming months we are going to need to update the forum software which will cut down on spammy registrations and make your MacAfee even happier. ;)

We were more than likely there with the TOW group that's in my signature line.
We now have a gathering at the Lynden fairgrounds where your Airstream would fit in very nice.
It's held in September but we haven't attended for a couple years due to Covid.

I have to say - last year was a bad year for rallies.... hoping this next season will be substantially improved. :)

Mike & Chell: Many thanks for everything you have done over the years to make this one of the best special interest forums on the 'net. Andy, Mike and Janet have their work cut out for them to uphold your high standards.

Finding this forum shortly after catching the bug, I found such a wealth of information that made my build possible. Then there were the many new teardropping friends online and IRL.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!
I'll burn that bridge when I come to it.
