Building a Journal: Reply? or Edit?

Postby erfnie » Wed Apr 29, 2020 8:19 am

I am well into creating the journal of our build and now wondering if I'm doing it the correct way.
I have been adding a new "reply" everytime I add a section to it.
But now I'm thinking I should be adding to it by going in to "edit" the first post instead? (That way any of/all the replies are after the initial post.)
Should I keep going as is or go back and move everything to the initial post?

P.S. How do I add a link to our build journal in my signature? or in my profile?

Updates are normally done by just a new reply.

You can add a link to your build by editing your profile. I think it's called Edit Your Signature.

There may be a limit to how much you can add or link to in a single post. Also, if you are adding things to an earlier post, people following your build won't be notified of the edit. It makes it hard to find new entries. I know I'm following several builds at any time and it would be a pain to go back and reread a single long post to see if there was something new.

It's best to use REPLY. That creates a new post, far easier to read and follow the whole journal thread. I know, it does seem somehow wrong to REPLY to yourself, but that's the best approach.

When I drop in here the first thing I do is go to VIEW NEW POSTS to see what people are talking about today. If you just edit an old post you will not show up on the list of what's new. When I view one of the big threads that have been around a long time, with hundreds of posts, I jump right to the last page to see the new chatter. If you edit one post you will disable that too.

REPLY is the way to go.
