Well,
I had the steel delivered but it has set near the steel rack with my name on all the pieces for the last two weeks.
Earlier this week I took the axle piece out to my friend Richards shop and we welded up the dropped axle. I used a TSC axle, chopped off the ends of the axle and using angle to keep it straight, welded up a good solid dropped axle.
I am using some 90's Buick 14 inch wheels to keep the profile down. I have a little over 7 inches of road clearance under the 2 inch square tubing with the wheels mounted. Since I don't plan on off road camping, I think this will be good. I was really wanting about 8 inches of clearance though. I guess I'll find out if it is enough.
Today, I went into the shop and cut all my steel up into the pieces I need for the frame. Now instead of some 24 foot lengths of 2 X 2, I have a whole pallet of shorter pieces. Next week, I'll start tacking the pieces together and checking out the squareness.
When I got all the steel cut to length, I found out that I miscalculated the total length I needed, and now I have to get about 12 more feet of 2 x 2. I decided not to use my used light I beam material I have out back, just because I want the whole thing to look professional.
Pictures just as soon as I can get the camera and stuff in one spont.
