Updated my SolidWorks model

Postby Bob Olszewski » Fri Mar 17, 2006 10:57 am

I found some time to update my models (i.e. I made some decisions).
I made the wheels. tires and hub caps match what I already bought for it.
I made the hatch "woody" to match the sides and I made the windows match the overall profile. And decided I like the tunnue cover that I've seen on other tears here. Plus it will match the cover on my truck.

Here is pictures of before and after

It was worth the effort, #2 is fantastic!

I love that window, the wheels, the wood...!

WOW!!!!! :o Not only is that beautiful, but your computer skills are humbling.
Chris :D

The tension between what is good enough and what is beyond that creates the space for character to become our work.

Yep, I like the updated model better too. I'm not sure about that dark top in the middle of summer though...

Those wire wheels are awsome... can we see a close up of those? ;)

Andrew and I did a set of wire wheels a while back... I was planning on using that on a Raven design, but I haven't developed the Raven sufficiently yet...

Mike...

Bob,

You don't want to use those wheels on your trailer - they haven't got any nipples on the spokes, so they're gonna fall off real soon. You want two of these:

Bob Olszewski, If... I were ever to consider building another teardrop I would be real tempted to borrow on your design, it's really bitchen looking.  I love the way the wood trim follows the curve of the fender. I would need to do something other than a black roof and spoke wheels though. I can't wait to see your end product. Are you going to build anytime soon? Danny

I'm still collecting parts and materials. I'll be starting to build this summer or early fall. I'm going to build 2 the same and selling one for what it cost me to build the 2 (parts & materials only, no labor). I have a few people interested in it already.

Chip: The wheels are '35 Ford 17" with Coker tires.
I have 5 more without tires I'm going to be selling at some point.

Danny: I'm thinking of changing the top to a tan color (another decision to be made). It will snap on like my truck bed cover. (may even get a new tan one for the truck so they match).

Thanks for the comments

While you got me thinking about the black top:
Image

Danny: I'm doing a set of drawings (nothing real fancy) to build this from, you're welcome to a copy if your serious about building.

Bob, The tan top makes all the difference, blends in very nice. 8) Your offer for a copy of plans is very tempting. At this point I'm not sure if I'll be making another, need to complete the first one. If it's just a computer file yes I would love a copy otherwise I don't want to put you through a lot of trouble. I possibly could have a guy plot out your file full size for my use. I would need to get permission from his employer first. Thanks, Danny :D

Bob, What I like about your plan is there is no aluminum involved. I'm a Cabinetmaker/woodworker all the way and with all the scratch issues I had to deal with and getting wide sheets going all wood seems so much more natural to me. Bending aluminum is so much more difficult than making a template for wood trim. This should be a stunning tear when completed. Danny :D
