Managed to nose the Jeep into the garage now it's nice and dark and hook the lights up to its battery. I was wondering if 2 LED lights would be enough but now I know, they work great, the camera doesn't really show the true brightness but you get the idea :)

The camera was set to night mode but I turned the flash off.

Now I can order a few more for the galley area :)

You need to post up detailed plans, that thing is amazing. I like how you did your door. Why did you do it like that anyway?

I second that, this is a great design. I would love to see it in the 3D Warehouse, but I can understand if you prefer not to.

Great build.

You mean the shape of the door? I wanted it to follow the lines of the rear hatch, which also follows the lines of the tailgate on the Jeep. The front slope on the TD also mirrors the windscreen slope on the Jeep (or close to it, I had to compromise a little).

And thanks for the compliments :D

Ah, it was just easy that way as I wanted an outer seal and an inner seal. It wasn't my original plan but things have changed a little as I have gone along.

I'll grab some more pics tomorrow but the doors aren't finished yet.

Did a little more today though, skinned around the window, hid the roof join with an accent Oak strip and cutout for the roof vent and window in the interior skin. The router with trim bit is my favorite tool at the moment, I like the way it leaves a small radius in the corners :) It makes such a professional looking cutout. The front window and its hardwood frame look really good in the flesh and make all the difference to the fell of quality from a very amateur builder :)

That looks great. I like the lights in the ceiling and the front window. That is the same way I did mine except the front window I have is a fixed type ( homemade - moon roof - he he he ). I may replace it with a movable awning type as you have and add a screen using what I have already have and redoing the frame to make it movable and the screen on the inside for the flying creatures amusement. I do need a vent at the top for ventilation when I use the A/C or without A/C. :applause:

Good job !

Question on roll over of trailers

Postby tmfournier » Fri Jan 04, 2008 9:54 am

Steve,

I have my trailer plans with an external roll bars aka "exoskeleton" since this is an off road trailer. Have you considered, if all this really nice work will not go to waste the first time the trailer goes on its side or on its top?

I did think about a hoop front and rear to double as kayak/boat rack but I want to keep the weight down. Anyway, most camping trips I take a trailer to the campsite, admittedly some are a little tough to get too, and then I leave it there before I go do the tough stuff. I don't expect to that to change with the TD, it'll more be rutted trails, beaches and dirt road touring etc.

Things are looking good on that there unit Steve. It looks like you've been test fitting some interior cabinetry, did you have any plans for cabinets at the nose? It looks like you have plenty of room for some.

I was planning some but after a test sleep (accidental) I like to be able to look up out the window so I think I'll just put a small shelf in for torch, keys, wallet, that sort of stuff :) There's plenty of other cabinetry and I like the open feel with the big window.

Wheel arches made and glued in, I need to glass the other side of them and ensure they are good and waterproof (and puncture proof) as well.

Hmmm, there seems to be more stuff accumulating in there and I dont even know why it's there, the little sledge for example!!!

Steve,

As a newb in the world of TD's, I have been following your build with a GREAT deal of interest. I think the quality of your has been outstanding and an inspiration, at least for me, AND your "documentation" of the build first rate!!! Without layin' it on too thick - THANKS!!!

Is there any chance you could take lots-n-lots of pictures as you install the cabinetry inside? :worship: I ask only because the galley area, in the rear of most of these rigs is pretty straightforward... It's those pesky interior cabinets that give me fits... :?

Thanks, again, for sharing this whole experiance! It's been a hoot!!!!!
