Greg
Are my eyes deceiving me or did I miss something? Did you widen your HF frame and axle?

Looging great. Nice work.

Gerdo,

Yea I did widen a HF trailer. If you look a little farther down the MEMBER DESIGNS page you will see The Start of the Northwoods. It has the pictuses of how we did it. I was pretty easy once I got my welder into it.

Thanks everyone for the kind words. I'm having great fun with the build.

More progress to report. The ceiling is in and so are the light fixtures. I need to get the hinge ordered for the back and to decide on the way I want to keep the hatch closed.

After that it the roof and the final finish. I'll get some pictures soon.

nice job on the teardrop....

I remember when I moved from Wisconsin to Santa Rosa, California and looking at the green hills at Christmas thinking Snow what Snow.....

If you do a meet at your place you might have Andrew design some removable ski's for those trailers where snow is rear. I now Live on the Central coast of california and my Wife who what born here has never seen falling snow. I actually miss the stuff. I use to take long walks in it at 5 or 6 am when the human crazys were not about. I also miss the Green and the changing colors of fall. But not the cold or the ice. ;) thanks for sharing, I use to have a girlfreind for Land o Lakes pritty terratory.

Ron,

Gotta get it buttoned up. Snow will be here soon enough. The garden froze out a month ago. About half of the leaves are off the trees. Also, geese are getting ready to head south. Nature's clock never fails.

Questions regarding your axel ?

Postby tmaken2157 » Wed Oct 17, 2007 2:09 pm

Congrats on you tear. I'm itching to get started. I like the approach you took with the axel mod. Could you tell me how long the piece of steel was you had welded into the axel, I read it was 1.25 square steel , is that solid stock and then there was some angle, was that welded over the insert for good measure to over lay the cut segment. Great job again and thanks for your help

Thanks for asking about how I widened the axle. We cut the axle in the middle. The HF axle is 3 sided. We found an old car axle that was approx. 1.25 in diameter and it fit inside the HF channel perfectly. I think that piece was about 24" long. After careful measuring to get the width I wanted, it was carefully aligned and welded to the HF axle. The piece you see is another scrap 3 sided piece we made to fit over the splice. It was welded in place.

I think we went out 5 1/2" on each side. I wanted the out side of my walls to be 59" so I could use 5' baltic birch for the roof. I am very pleased how it worked.

As everyone says the last 20% is the slowest going and that is where I am at the present time.

Feel free to ask of you have any questions.

Mrs Bigwoods has gotten more involved and surprised me with this fabric that she purchased for the pillows and curtains.

She also has another hardware piece for the galley that is a surprise, but has to pick it up tomorrow.

Interior ceiling is done and hinge should be come for the hatch. Tomorrow I will pick up some insulation and the baltic birch for the roof. I have finished the electrics except for hooking it up to a battery. I will pick up some paint tomorrow also and after the roof is installed, I will get it painted before winter sets in.

I put the snowblower on my tractor. I hate the thought!

Thanks for looking.

As much as Mrs. Bigwoods like this fabric, I wonder if I should start shopping for an old woodie? Just a thought.

I just noticed that my counter is stuck on 261. That's different. Maybe I'm stuck in a rut.

Maybe Greg is just looking at his previous posts and noticing the post count on them all is the same. A quick explanation of how it works might be all that's needed ;)

Cheers
