The Mini-Tear Pop-Out
Image
How about a TD that gets pulled around as a Mini Tear (4x4 trailer) and then when you get to the camp site, the front would slide forward or the back would slide back, or some of both. This would create another 3.5 feet in length. Since the inside of the tear is 4' high and 4' wide, you should be able to have 3.5x4' sections that would swing out/up to make the sides and top. The door would be incorporated in the sides somehow... or the entire side folding part could be the door.

Is there anything like this out there? I haven't noticed any designs like this. What do you think about it?

I just saw Dean's "Modernistic Woody Slide-Out " (Thanks to the random picture up on the top left of the title bar) I guess it is kind of like that...
Does that fold up to a Mini tear? I think it looks more like a regular sized tear that gets stretched further....

I kinda like the mini-look.

Hey Nathan,

That's a slick little design. There's a few problems with it...

1) You open yourself up to the potential for leaks
2) You have to set up your bed every time you go camping
3) You have no room inside to store stuff while towing
4) Getting electrical between the two halves becomes a challenge
5) Other than asethetics, there was no benefit

I don't know about you, but I really like the idea of showing up at a campground, dropping the stabilizers, and I am done setting up. No fuss, no mess!!!

If you are really up to a challenge, try on a couple of these...
A teardrop with a bathroom
An emergency teardrop for escaping hurricane or flood situations
A teardrop that you can stand up in
A teardrop that you can cook inside, or outside

Well it took forever to make the first one... but now its pretty easy. And once you make it, its simple to change it around and make the different pictures like shown above. Thanks for all your help Mike!

I still think it looks nice closed up - mini.

If that's the one that you really like, then build it. Everyone has different tastes, and different ideas what they like in a teardrop!!!

Who knows...

I'm not set on this design. Just thinking it out.
I travel alot for work... so I have to have something to think about while sitting in the car for hours :)
Tomrrow I'm going to Pittsburgh and then down to VA for Wednesday.
Thinking out how something like this would work helps pass the time
That and books on CD.
