Weekender inspired build - Now FINISHED!!

We started out in April with an old (1980's) travel trailer we bought off ebay for $100:

Then stripped it down (destuction can be fun):

Once we had it down to the floor (1 1/2 inch foam core sheathed in ply) and cut down to size we made a perimeter frame to take the walls:

Then we could start building :applause: :

We hope to get the roof on and make a start on the interior shortly.

Must say this project is the most fun I've had without lying down

It is nice to have a wife to help... or to do most of the building.

Looks like you will be done soon and will have a really great looking trailer.

And yes, I think the demo work would be alot of fun. :D

Hi all

A few more things checked off the THINKS TO DO list:

Got the electrics, both 240v and 12v, installed. Butchered an old charger/supply unit I'd had sitting around in the shed for about ten years (I said it would come in handy one day!):

Image

Fitted the overhanging lip to the galley hatch ready to refit rear doors:

Image

Dry fitted the front panel that will eventually take one of the windows slavaged from the donor trailer:

Image

Made a start on the interior panelling which has 1" polystyrene insulation fitted behind:

Image

Hopefully won't be long before we can start fiberglassing the exterior.... then we are well on the way to usability :worship: :worship:

Hey Ian,

Thats looking good. And the width is pretty nice too. I think you'll like the width.

Keep the pictures coming!

Thanks Mike

I need the extra width, being a little on the wide side myself

Having said that I've lost 22 pounds in the last 9 weeks (bread is the ENEMY!!) maybe it's the diet or maybe it's making all that sawdust.

Well the exterior is almost done, got nearly all the fittings on and filling and sanding done. The only big job left is to fit the front window and decide on what we're going to use for the side door window and the one on the opposite wall, probably going to go for homemade ones made out of perspex/lexan.

Then all I gotta do is take of all the bits and pieces before I start fiberglassing.

Here's hoping for a few long dry days.

Good weather Sunday........

So started on the exterior finish, having checked out a number of threads over on here and over at Tearjerkers, I have decided not to go for fibre glassing as the latest exterior paints have performance high enough given that we are using water proof board and adhesives. Going for two coats of primer/undercoat and at least two coats of topcoat in a satin finish. Using Dulux Weathershield, has a six year guarantee and is specifically designed for outdoor woodwork. Undercoat is white but we have yet to decide on the topcoat colour. Probably a green, cream or blue.

Also got a bit more done on the insulation in the cabin and finished off the panels in the galley.

In hospital for an op on my nose tomorrow so not sure when I can get going again, wish me luck.

Cheers

Miriam

Thanks for the kind thoughts, op went OK, it's just the painkillers keeping me out of action for the moment - Doctor says "Mustn't use power tools" ....... but he's only had 7 years of training and 20 years of experience - what does he know!

Bit of a slow down due to post-op recovery taking longer than I though it would - turns out the damn doctors knew what they were talking about and I was pretty out of it for more than a week.

But the good weather over the weekend allowed us to get the front window in:

and got the fenders made up and slapped on the first bit of topcoat on the sides of the body:

Here's hoping for more sunshine!
