Dressing Tent?

Postby mperk » Sun Oct 30, 2005 10:50 pm

I was looking over some photos of past Teardrop gatherings and notice that a number of the Tears had a small tent outside one of the doors with a roof on it that could be used for changing. Does anyone know where these tents can be found.

Thanks!!!!!!!!!!

mperk...welcome to our little band of camping gypsies...the tents you refer to are common and available from Sportsmans Guide, Camping World, Cabelas, Pah Que, and most tent supplier/outfitters. They come in many styles from small pop-ups to large models that can be attached to the rear or side of a TearDrop campers
they range from screen room types like this one
to one like this
to a very nice one like this
there are alotta choices...glad you found us be beware the TD bug may bite

mperk, being the cheap miser that I am, I made my own out of some electrical conduit and a $2 shower curtain. Of course I have an old roof rack on top of the Tear for the kayak so there was already something to attach to. I just take off the rubber ends from the rack pipes and slip the conduit right in. Cheap, easy and works great. Of course it doesn't look as fancy as the store bought ones, it looks like some yahoo rigged it up in his garage using electrical conduit and a shower curtain

I made mine out of 3/4 inch PVC pipe and a $2 shower liner (we must have both shopped at Wally World). Actually used 2 liners for the whole thing.

It slips into 3/4" PVC caps I attached to the side of the teardrop.

It's worked well, especially when I glued the bottom edge of the shower curtain up to make a sleeve and slipped a piece of PVC pipe filled with sand through this sleeve to add weight and keep it from blowing around in the wind.

Nice Gail, you went with the deluxe model to need TWO shower liners. great idea on the sand weights. I'm afraid I'm going to have to steal that idea. I bow to your frugal ingenuity. :applause:

Brickz

Yes, the weighted PVC pipe worked well. I fitted the ends with 3/4" PVC pipe caps to keep the sand from leaking out.

PVC pipe is my friend.

No pictures; sorry.

A few other members have made similar changing tents. I used 3/4" PVC pipe instead of conduit because I had some pipe left over plus some 3/4" elbows, "T"'s and end caps.

I used the shower curtain because 1. I could attach it to the top pole with shower curtain holders, making it easier to push open and shut, 2. the shower curtain was on sale and the whole outfit was probably under $10 so if it turned out badly I could alway toss it out and 3. it matched the bedsheets in the tear drop, providing a stunning and color coordinated outfit (and hiding the fact it's a cheapo project).

Here's an easy one to make. A hand full of snaps, two polls and some material.

Have a good day.
