Postby goldcoop » Fri Jan 13, 2006 10:48 pm

Hey all!

Anyone use rear motorcycle fenders on a TD?

I was thinkin these Indian repro's would look cool, skirted and everything!

Only down fall for us using the orig. 12" H.F. trailers would be that they are for 16"-19" tires. however they do have a rather attractive design to complement the tear shape..

The rear fender seems to have a big hole in the front and the front one would be too narrow unless you pay for a custom width - but the front one would look excellent.

You would need to have 15" wheels/tires (maybe 14") if you wanted the wheel and fender to be reasonably matched.

Hey-

Steve- I agree 12" would be too small to use with these fenders.

How are the height of cycle tires measured compared to trailer tires? Are they based on the inside diameter of the rim or OD of the tire?

Andrew- I bet these guys are small enough that you could order the rears without the cut-out (it's probably a secondary trimming operation anyway).

Just thinking! (and that hurts) LOL!

Coop,, he started out wid 10" flat fenders from Northern Tool and welded a piece of metal on the outside,, cut out the swoop and bondo and painted the whole thing up,,,, the fenders are bolted to the brake backing plate on the axle so clearance wasnt a issue,,,

Here is Metzeler's US motorcycle tire fitment guide which shows that most motorcycle tires are in the range 650-700mm diameter - that's 25.6-27.6 Merkan inches.

For comparison, Goodyear's trailer tire table shows that the wider 14" and narrower 15" 75-series tires are about the same diameter. However they are 8.0-8.5" wide which looks to be too tight a fit inside a 9-10" fender.

Yeah, maybe, though it looks to me as though there is a step in the fender just in front of the cut for the opening that won't look good when it doesn't have a motorcycle frame to hide it.

For me, the front fenders look a bit more stylish on their own.

The price is right

Postby Guy » Sat Jan 14, 2006 3:33 pm

Dear All,

Certainly the price is right. $99 with 25 added for a custom width. Have them make one double width, then cut it in half. Two beauties for $125.
Regards,

Guy

What if any problems would I have mounting fiberglass fenders solid to the side of my tear. I need the wider fenders like he has.

Jim, without having the fenders in hand it is hard to say BUT they should prove no more poblematic than the FG fenders from Grant, RW Johnson, etc...I like the fact they can be had in wider widths than those fenders and are cheaper to boot!!!! I just wonder if they are long enough across the bottom line
