The "What tha Heck is it?" Trailer, by KIRTSJC

Did you just design your very own teardrop or tiny trailer? Want to discuss it? Here's the place to post your design for discussion!

The "What tha Heck is it?" Trailer, by KIRTSJC

Postby kirtsjc » Mon Feb 06, 2006 5:53 pm

sigh, ok, here is the progress report:

I have the design on paper, shell demensions are final, and my Tractor Supply experience went real sour real fast.

Interior is not finalized, as I want to get the trailer frame built before I do the cardboard mockup which will determine where the Dinette, Gallery, HVAC, and all that good stuff is going.

Once I have the mockup built, I will post the drawings, and the building of the cardboard mockup for all to critique and suggest.

Size: 5x8 bed

Interior size: 5.5 feet

Length: 10.5 feet body, tonge box additional 2 feet

Shape: What tha Heck is it? (Can't figure out a name because it is a blend of at least five different profiles, taking a little bit of the best from everyone.)

Maybe I'll call it the "Plagarized" :applause:

OK, OK, here is a hint about the shape: Deciding drove me BUGGY...

Now, must leave in a hurry, else I will be late for my first welding class!

Okay,

I can't visualize the Buggy... you'll have to post a picture of your sketch...

Was going to do a "Rugged", but too much for me; see the pics for what the cardboard mockup wall looked liked (YUCK!).

I am by myself, not even a dog to worry about, so 1 person = 1 door in my book. I can cut out another door if need be - I have a, ahem, built-in pattern that I can use...

Well, a month has passed, and I am still not done.

110 installed and working: charger to deep-cycle, two duplexes, 110
vent fan installed in bulkhead

12 v installed and working: fuse block, main fuse, main shutoff,
vent fan in the overhead vent, side "porch" light, galley light
(have to run another pair to front for the reading light), third-
brake light and a license plate bracket with light

Gallery shelved installed, sides of gallery lined, have two bulkhead
liners to make, galley hatch hinge on the way

Inside supports for the windows framed

Inside support for the door framed, lock installed, need to install
the striker plate

An air conditioner is sitting in the garage, but I still am
undecided where to install it.

Spare tire holder and spare tire installed, but it may move
depending on the Air conditioner location.

Now, how to seal the seams???? Fiberglass and then paint the body,
or caulk, aluminum trim and paint the body? Heck! I don't know!

(Wasn't Heck an outfielder?)

August 5th & 6th progress: PICTURE ALERT!!!

Postby kirtsjc » Sun Aug 06, 2006 2:53 pm

Gallery hatch work done today (darn that USPS for taking two weeks to get my SoCal order delivered) which was installing the SoCal Geared Hinge on the gallery hatch.

Image

A "clean" rough finished gallery; my theme is Red, White and Blue, so somewhere I have white and red to do...

Image

Gallery in "normal use" mode...

Image

Details of a SoCal Geared Hinge being cut for installation

More pix in my album!
