7 x 10 Tiny Trailer

Postby jwh92020 » Tue Jun 26, 2018 7:50 pm

I decided I wanted to do a full build so I started kind of small. I want it to be light weight, easy to tow and comfortable for those rainy days when outside isn't an option. I decided on a 7 x 10 platform with a 6ft interior height. Full size bed in front, 2 person dinette on passenger side rear, sink, storage and frig cabinet lower driver side rear. Upper driver side rear will be storage and a built in a/c unit. I had the frame built - 2 x 2 tubing, 40" tongue, 3500 lb axle. Cabin frame is 2 x 2s ripped from 2 x 4s. Exterior is sheathed with ThermoPly and skinned with exterior grade FRP. Roof is 24 gauge roofing metal, only 1 seam. Interior will be natural finish luan ply. No propane, all electric. Lights and device charging will be from solar. Here are some pics of the progress:

Very nice! :applause:  :applause:

Do you mind a few questions? Could you provide info and/or where you purchased the FRP? Also, the same for your windows and doors.
How did you attach the FRP and the roof metal?

Thank you,
Tom

Tom - I bought the FRP from a guy here in Oklahoma City. He has about 300 more sheets of this size and about 100 of 25 x 77 sheets. He also has about 2000 sheets of 60 x 80 Filon. He got them from a RV supply place that closed down. I got the windows from Shed Windows and More.com. 3 - 14 x 27 windows were right at $100 including shipping. I got the door from a mobile home supply store here in OKC. 30 x 72 door was $250. I used DAP Power Grab for FRP. I talked to several FRP adhesive mfgs and DAP was the only one that had done testing for outdoor use. They said it held up well during their tests. Roof is 2 48" piecesof 24 gauge metal. One sheet is flushed to one edge and the oter sheet is flushed to the other side with a 7" overlap. I ran a bead of sealant under the overlap then used Eternabond Tape on the seam. The metal is screwed to to the roof joists with metal roofing screws.

Thank you! That is great information. When I get in build mode for the second time I'm going to look around the DFW for similar materials.

A few more pics. Marker lights are mounted, tail lights mounted, 30 amp inlet mounted and the exterior trim is done.
