Anyone else a member of Freecycle?

My local group has about 2000 members. I've noticed in the last few weeks several offers to give away old pop ups, trailers and boat trailers (all stuff offered has to be for free). At times, there have been offers for lots of different camping stuff.

While these things seem to go very quickly, this might be a good option for free goodies. So far, I've not responded to getting stuff but when I post things I want to give away, I get responses VERY quickly. A good way to clean out the attic/garage/shed without cluttering up the landfill.

For more information on freecycle, go to www.freecycle.org.

freecycle

Thanks Gail ! That's a good group for me, since I'm still clearing out some stuff from this old house and they kept everything! Maybe I'll finally get these two riding mowers given out for parts!
And there was a guy who was looking for a pop up camper in my area, but he mentioned that he has worked on all kinds of motors, trucks, etc so maybe he'll consider doing some wiring work for me! haha

I have tried to join the local freecycle several times and never got a reply back. I gave up.

Boodro,
I had the same problem. If you go to the Edit Membership on the top of the page and then select No Email under Message Delivery, that should stop them. I was getting tons of e-mails for stuff I had no use for.

Or go to the membership / profile settings and choose Daily Digest and you'll get one email with the headings of the emails listed first and if nothing catches your eye, then hit delete.

I joined just this a.m. and immeadiately posted about two old riding mowers I want someone to pick up and hopefully have for parts.

Sure enough! Four replies and the first gal and hubby are coming in a few hours to get them Only thing is , me and son had to put the wheels on the teardrop and move it out of the way. BUT I'll tell ya what... it looks good sitting outside and getting some air!!!

Julie

The only issue I've had is working out when folks will come and pick up the stuff. Often I tell them I'm leaving it up at the road and they can pick it up while I'm at work.

It's a good way to recycle stuff someone else might be able to use. I've given away two broken chain saws to a "Mr. Fixit", some bird cages, leftover gutter, even some english ivy and that horrible Monkey Grass (imagine someone wanting your weeds!).

Lately I've seen several ads for boats and wondered if the trailers would be useful for teardrops.

There are lots and lots of ads coming through (often for clothes) so I've found it's helpful to do the "digest" thing. If I was looking for something specific, I'd probably post a "wanted" ad.
