Gourmet Dinner

Postby Tom&Shelly » Fri Jan 13, 2023 9:11 pm

Shelly was working late on her doll house furniture and so asked me to make us a nice dinner. Of course, I was excited and pleased to do so. I decided to prepare us a salisbury steak with roasted potatoes, homemade gravy, and, because I don't especially like vegetables, a side of macaroni and cheese.

The instructions on the back of the TV dinner said (I won't mention the brand because I don't want to embarrass Ms Callender) that at the 4 minute point, I should "rotate the steak clockwise one half turn". So, I gather one half a turn is 180 degrees (pi radians for my fellow engineers). But how does the steak know whether it was turned clockwise or counter-clockwise? Just askin'...

Tom

PS--Mick, if they have this particular brand down in your neck of the woods, I suppose they would have special southern hemisphere cooking directions saying you should turn it anti-clockwise.

Probably suggested by their legal department to prevent consumers from rotating it upside down and spilling the scalding contents on themselves. You never know...

If you still have at least half of your firewood, and half your silage, you MAY yet survive the Winter! :snow :snowstorm:

Our silage was primarily from sugar cane. I wonder if the bottom stuff had developed a special kick at the end of the season. I recall it had a special smell. :D

My comment to Shelly during a certain show on TV tonight:

"Well sure, all the guys are flying around shooting at balloons!" :FNP

Today Shelly said she "has no class and no principals". I assumed she was referring to the fact she married me, but, no, she merely meant she is a retired teacher.

If a couple of house finches build a nest in your metal garage, shouldn't they be called "garage finches"? Or is there some sort of inappropriate stereotyping with that term?

Had a couple looking over my garage, and they seemed quite excited about the location until they met the landlord. I don't know why they didn't like me; we could have come to some really great terms from their point of view: They merely have to eat their fill of bugs. Oh well. We'll probably have the place rented out soon enough. It's the season.

Finally decided to click on some spam I've been getting about a "German Adult Film Star's Secret". Somewhat to my surprise, it turned out to be a biography of Karl-Otto Alberty, who, after growing up in war torn Germany, and after a brief career as a teenage boxer, became a film star (or at least bit player and character actor) as an adult, specializing in playing German soldiers in World War II movies and TV series. Not quite what I expected!

Oh! His secret? Early in his career he bought his own tailor made Wehrmacht uniform, and so a studio could put him right in as an extra and didn't even have the expense of sending him to costuming.

Nah! Just kidding. I have no idea what I would find if I clicked on that annoying spam. Just made a curious guess about what the title could mean, if it didn't mean what the spammer wanted me to think it meant.

But really now, after seeing every English language WWII movie ever made, some probably 20 times, I began to recognize the faces of the minor actors showing up time and time again, and just had to find out who this guy was!
