Word Of The Day

Just for fun. Join in if you dare, or if you care.

Pick an unusual word and use it in a sentence. Definitions optional!

blatherskite
Careful starting a conversation with my neighbor. He is quite a blatherskite.

Oh boy Tom. I hope you aren't using the Cambridge Dictionary definition! :frightened:

post festa

From Ladislas Farago, Patton, Ordeal and Triumph:

"[Patton] instructed General Ward to prepare the 1st Armored Division for aggressive action near Mahares, totally unauthorized, yet hoping that he would gain Alexander's post festa approval with the accomplished fact of the operation's success."

Note this isn't quite the definition given in Google using Latin or Italian for post festa. Not sure if the use is obsolete or Farago's peculiar use of English (he was Hungarian).

aura

The meaning is, however, clear from context and the Patton aura.

Farblunget

I've searched and searched for a "firm" four inch mattress for my new teardrop project but I am still farblunget.

You might get the feeling I am Jewish with my word of the day selections. I'm not. But I am totally amazed by the Yiddish language!

Clayey

Whereas psammophiles live in sandy soil, up here in the mountains we have clayey soil.

(Congrats to Dev Shah! He has a skill that I never was any good at all at!)

Bereft: lacking something needed or expected

It seems this challenge is bereft of participants.

As the OP of this challenge I take offense to the scurrility that the reply has caused!

(Not really, just playing along)

OK, how about some combos?

Well, what would you expect from an incorrigible sort as myself? I don't claim to possess a superior command of the English language, but profess to being proficient in the American dialect - Southern region, along with being well versed in Texican.

expassulate

According to Google, "expassulate" does not show up anywhere on the World Wide Web. Therefore, it can mean anything we want it to mean!

Of course, soon, if one Googles on it, this folder will come up. It's vital we define expassulate, in case any Scrabble players need it!

One possibility: Passing a cop on a toll road, while speeding, because you are running late for an important appointment, with an expired Easy-Pass.

Others...?
